Message
Tatsuya Chujo (hereafter TC) has been working on the experimental studies of the relativistic heavy ion collisions using the worldwide accelerators, from AGS (E866), SPS (WA98), RHIC (PHENIX) and LHC (ALICE). TC is interested in the creation of a confined matter of quarks and gluons, Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) at RHIC and LHC, and QGP properties. TC worked in the PHENIX collaboration (2000-2007), and discovered a phenomenon, called Baryon Anomaly [7] (the most cited "full" paper at RHIC/LHC experiment, iNSPIRE citation: 1031 as of 2025, March). This finding inspired the theoretical interpretations and quark recombination models together with hydrodynamical models can reproduce the data, and it connected to the discovery of QGP at RHIC [8] announced in 2005. By this finding, TC received the award; 11th Distinguished Young Researchers Award (Experimental Nuclear Physics, Japan) (2004). TC was nominated as a plenary speaker of the Quark Matter conference (2002). In PHENIX, he contributed to 1) Time-of-Flight (TOF-E) detector construction, operation manager, calibration, and data analysis, 2) PHENIX data production manager (2001-2002), 3) Global-Hadron Physics convener (2004 -2006), 4) Multi-gap Resistive Plate Chamber (MRPC) R&D for the PHENIX Experiment high pT PID upgrade project. In 2007, TC joined the ALICE collaboration. He is now leading the FoCal collaboration as a co-project leader, FoCal Japan representative, and FoCal-E pad detector representative. TC is a team leader (2020-; Member of the Collaboration Board) and deputy team leader (2007-2020) of University of Tsukuba, ALICE group. He was a Deputy Project Leader of ALICE EMCal/DCal detector (2014 - 2017), and Jet Physics Working Group co-conveners in ALICE (2017- 2020, Member of the Physics Board) [2-6], and ALICE Tier 2 in Tsukuba computing site responsible (2016-). TC is a PI of the Quark-Gluon Plasma Research Unit, between University of Tsukuba and Utrecht University (2018-2025). He also contributed to the Letter of Intent for FoCal: on FoCal-E pad detector, test beam analysis [1]. TC received JSPS KAKENHI grant (B) (0.2 M USD, 2013-2015), (A) (0.5 M USD, 2017-2020) and (S) (2 M USD, 2020-2024) for FoCal and awarded "Best Faculty Member 2021", University of Tsukuba (2022/02). After the discovery of QGP [8], a main problem in our field is how QGP is created, and what are the initial conditions of heavy ion collisions. TC now focuses on the FoCal project that will answer those key questions in our field. TC is also working on a next generation silicon pixel detector, MAPS, for the ALICE3 upgrade, and EIC/ePIC zero-degree calorimeter project.
