Message
I am interested in the intersection of health policy and social equity, studying the social structures and health systems that affect health and health care quality/access, as well as the behavior and preferences of health care players. My current research topics include (1) the structure of overuse of medical care (e.g., low-value care), (2) physician-side factors in the quality of medical care and disparities, and (3) health services research for older adults. I use public statistical data, medical claims/electronic health record data, cohort studies, and panel surveys in Japan and the United States. I often use causal inference methods such as natural experiments.
